Time management for life is becoming more important now than ever. As our daily lives grow more and more hectic, with increasing demands on our time, we need ways to put the time we have into perspective. It is natural to go through periods where we are pressured for time. Yet, when we start to chronically feel that time is in short supply, an intervention or two may be called for. This article gives you a simple method for using self-talk to put time back into perspective.
'I don't have enough time!' This simple statement or self-talk may or may not be true. We obviously do have some time, otherwise we would be dead. We all have the same twenty four hours a day and we all use those twenty four hours differently. It is how we use this time that will determine how little or plenty time we feel we have.
When we feel the pressure of 'I don't have enough time!', we aren't in the best position to appreciate the time we have. This is unfortunate since the time we have is precious and, in truth, plentiful.
Try the following out-of-the-mind self improvement technique and see how it affects your relationship with time. See if it doesn't bring more appreciation for yourself, and your time, into your life...
Don't Have Enough Time? Are You Sure? Try This Time Management for Life Technique and see if it doesn't bring you some 'timeless' inspiration...
When you catch yourself thinking 'I don't have enough time', or 'I wish I had more time' - try replacing the word 'time' with the word 'life'. After all, it has been said that time is money; yet even more than that - time is life. Replacing the word 'time' with 'life', your self-talk then becomes: 'I don't have enough life' or 'I wish I had more life'.
I wish I had more life...hmmm...sounds a little strange to think of it that way. Yet, there seems to be something to it. Ask yourself, 'Isn't this a more accurate description of my real plight?' Isn't having more life, what we really want? If we indeed had more life, in the time already allotted to us, what would that look like? This is where we need to focus.
Asking ourselves this question when under the pressure of time helps to give us perspective. Instead of focusing on our lack of time, and wishing we had more of it, we are now focused on life and how to live more of it. This is where we want to be.
Why is time management important? Well, time management isn't. We can't control time or manage it. Time runs on its own.
Think about it. No matter how we view time, or what we do with the time we have - there are still only 24 hours in a day. One second after the next... time moves on. After 60 seconds, a minute has passed. After 60 minutes, an hour has gone by. After 24 hours we look back at a day. Time itself can't be managed. Nothing we do can change the flow of time.
What we can manage is ourselves and our lives. We can manage our thinking and how we spend our time. This is the real art of time management for life, is it not?
By changing our self-talk from 'I have no time' or 'I wish I had more time', to 'I have no life' or 'I wish I had more life' - entails a complete change of perspective. It forces us to look at the real issue, which isn't really about time management at all.
Our time-management issue is really a self-management issue in disguise. This is great news since getting better at managing ourselves is readily doable. Instead of constantly worrying about managing the little time we feel we have; we can focus on managing something that is immediate and close at hand - ourselves.
'Timeless' inspiration comes from how we regard and 'hold' the time we have. Timeless inspiration is, in fact, a natural by-product of stepping out-of-the-mind. When we step out-of-the-mind our relationship with time is instantly transformed. As an example, when we get carried away by wonderfully relaxing music, our sense of time easily shifts. Suddenly we have all the time in the world!
It isn't that the pressures of life have changed. It is simply that our relationship with time has been altered. Stepping out-of-the-mind gives us a new perspective on time - a fresh and life giving one. Now that's time management for life!
