Quotes on Taking Initiative

Initiative quotes point to a dormant power within - the power of conscious action. This power awaits until tapped by initiative. Without initiative we stay where we are. Taking initiative, we reach for something new. Taking initiative breaks the cycle of inertia and allows us to stretch.

Stepping Out of the Mind with Initiative

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, make them."

~George Bernard Shaw

Initiative is essential to walking a conscious path - for a conscious path is always chosen. We have the subconscious power of inertia to thank for this. Our habitual ways carry momentum. This momentum keeps going until an intervening force is introduced. Resistance will need to be overcome if positive life change is to be made.

The intervening force to overcome the resistance of inertia is initiative.

The stronger the momentum of our habits, the more powerful the initiative we’ll have to bring into play. Otherwise the river of life keeps flowing uninterrupted.

Initiative is to take a boulder and throw it into that flow!

If the boulder is big enough the water is diverted and a new path begins to emerge. Our old ways are interrupted and new ways begin to take shape. What happens if we drop our boulder into the water and the flow continues as before? What happens if we fail to disrupt the momentum of our old ways? This certainly isn’t the time to give up.

We can muster our resources to throw an even larger boulder of initiative into the river, or we can continue throwing smaller rocks until the desired effect is achieved. With determination and persistence any river can be made to change its course.

Yet nothing will happen until something happens. Nothing will happen until we happen. We need to begin. We have to take that first step - again and again if need be.

Taking initiative breaks the cycle of inertia that serves to keep us at bay. As with any positive life change we can draw on inspiration to help smooth the way. The following initiative quotes can provide such guiding inspiration...
