It has been a long standing tradition in Zen monasteries in Japan to regard the dawn of a new year as a time for reflection. It is an opportunity and a chance to take stock as we leave the previous year behind and are about to enter a new one.
We look back with a sense of gratitude for all we have experienced and lived. Wherever our path may have led, it has all been made possible by the gift of life which was ours throughout.
This crossroads is also a chance to reflect on the things we may have been able to do better - to look honestly at ourselves and to see where we can improve moving into the promise of a fresh year ahead.
What change is within our power to make, that will bring us closer to the kind of life we want for both ourselves and for others? Is it a change of attitude? A change in perspective? Or perhaps a behavioral change that is called for?
Whatever it is that we decide to do or change, we can make best use of our time and energy moving into the future by focusing our intention on whatever it is we aim to achieve.
How much time and energy is lost through a simple lack of direction? A thought, or one clear intention, can be enough to give us the direction we need. Offered below are some questions you can use to help reflect on life and open up new avenues to explore in the coming year.
Here's to a year full of learning, personal growth and fulfillment.
